You can go to the Acton Global website and purchase your very own Blink S2 for $899, $100 off, by using coupon code BLINKS2100. Acton is currently fulfilling orders for the Blink S backers, with the Blink S2 coming in late January to mid February 2017. The maple board paired with the gray hard-tail, the bright green 83mm wheels, and the soft-white under glow has me excited to see this board when it is finally released.Īcton led an Indiegogo campaign that ended in mid December 2016 and became the most funded electric skateboard campaign by raising almost $1.4M with over 1800 backers from all over the world. The final piece of this gorgeous, electronic puzzle is the board itself. Acton has stated that there will be global challenges through the app in the future. This app will also provide feedback on total miles ridden, tripometer, you will be able to adjust the speed modes, as well as compare your riding to a global leader board. Acton has also installed lights on the front and rear of the board that can be controlled by a smartphone app. The newer boards, Blink S, S2, & QU4TRO will all feature these light bars. Acton has created a light bar that runs on both sides of the underside case which is an awesome safety feature. One of the more unique features of the Acton electronic skateboards is the lighting. This added engineering allows this 31.5″ board to maintain its slim profile and still provide support for up to a 250lb rider. The center of the Canadian Maple body has been cut-out and an aircraft-grade aluminum shell has been inserted to support all of the electrical components (image below). This is achieved by engineering the battery and other components into the board itself. This will make carrying the board on public transportation or into work or school much more convenient.Īs you can see from the photo to the left, the Blink S2 has a limited profile. Acton has designed a backpack, Acton SB Backpack, that will carry almost any size skateboard, electric or human-powered. With a 1-1.5hr recharge time, you could easily take this anywhere without fear of getting stranded. The Blink S2 is capable of reaching 18mph and can cruise for a total of 14 miles on 1 charge, and only weighs in at 12lbs. The battery compartment has been tested and is rated as “water resistant.” The motors are connected to the battery via custom designed rear truck that outputs 1000W of power. Each wheel contains a motor that is wrapped by a poly-carbonate wheel that is capable of both forward and reverse drive. The Blink S2 utilizes two in-wheel hub motors that provide a much cleaner look than it’s belt-drive counterpart. Acton put in a lot of work to design a clean looking undercarriage, and I believe that hard work paid off. You can see here that the belts and motor mounts take up a lot of real estate under the board, and really aren’t that pleasant to look at. The belt-driven motor does provide a very snappy response when the accelerator is pressed, does not look as aesthetically pleasing as the Blink S2’s in-wheel hub motors. As you will see below the difference between the overall aesthetic between belt-driven and in-wheel hub motors is quite intriguing. Acton, creator of the Blink S2, has used the in-wheel motor since their first board, the Blink Lite, hit the scene. The Blink S2 is a unique electronic skateboard because it does not utilize the belt-driven motor that many of the current top manufacturers use.
